Skylights and attic ventilation

Northridge Roofing reflashes and replaces skylights and balances attic ventilation on homes across Lakewood and the Denver metro.

Why does attic ventilation matter for my roof?

An attic needs cool air coming in at the soffits and warm air leaving at the ridge. Without that flow, summer heat bakes the shingles from below, and in winter warm, moist air melts snow on the roof and forms ice dams at the eaves. Both shorten a roof’s life and can void a shingle warranty.

Skylights are the other common leak point. Most skylight leaks come from worn flashing or a failed seal, not the glass. Northridge Roofing reflashes skylights that are still sound and replaces older units with new, flashed skylights when the seal has gone.

When to call us

  • Ice dams or heavy icicles along the eaves
  • A hot, stuffy attic in summer or frost on the roof deck in winter
  • A skylight that drips, fogs or has stained drywall around it
  • Shingles aging faster on one side of the roof

What to expect

  1. 01

    Attic check

We measure intake and exhaust and look for moisture or frost.

  2. 02

    Plain recommendation

You get the fix and a fixed price, from a ridge vent to a new skylight.

  3. 03

    Install

Vents or skylights are installed and flashed into the existing roof.

  4. 04

    Test and tidy

We water test skylights and clean up inside and out.

How do I keep my attic ventilated?

Keep soffit vents clear of insulation and paint, never cover ridge vents, and make sure bathroom and kitchen fans vent outside rather than into the attic. Check skylight wells for stains after heavy rain.

Common questions
